Vine Cottage Charmouth

A word of welcome from the owners

Vine Cottage“The Cottage is Perfect! – great location and home from home”

This comment was written by a family staying in the cottage this year and there were many other entries in our visitor’s book of a similar nature from contented holidaymakers, many of them returning for repeat visits.

We felt the same ourselves, for when we decided to purchase a weekend and holiday property, we called at many villages along the coast from Lyme Regis to Portland; Charmouth was our second stop and we fell in love with the house and the village.

Why Charmouth? We can walk to the beach for picnics overlooking the sea, surrounded by coastal cliffs and green hills. Even on New Year’s Day we were able to sit out in the sun by the beach café enjoying their hot chocolate! The village itself is warm and welcoming and has more than adequate shopping facilities. Charmouth is a ‘gateway town to the Jurassic coast’ with its own fossil centre. It is truly a great holiday destination at all times of year.

Vine cottage is on the main street so one truly feels part of the village (Charmouth is by-passed by the A35!!). The rooms are all cosy in feel, though well sized to accommodate up to 6. Another visitor wrote “ A beautifully equipped and very tasteful cottage”. Indeed we set out to furnish it comfortably and it has all the convenience of a modern property whilst maintaining the charm of a traditional cottage.

vine cottageOur visitors have enjoyed Charmouth as an excellent base to explore the picturesque Dorset and Devon towns, villages, sea-shores and countryside whatever the weather. And we have enjoyed our visits to Beer, Hive Beach in Burton Bradstock (where there is a popular beach café), Lyme Regis and Abbotsbury. Market towns such as Axminster, Bridport, Honiton and Dorchester all have points of interest which can be researched from the links on our website.

Enjoy your stay!

Fossil hunting

Join Chris Pamplin to explore Charmouth beach and collect your own fossils on a series of walks throughout the year. Landslides reported last year near Lyme Regis, which are about a mile to the West of the Charmouth Heritage centre, have not affected these walks. The landslip area is very clearly identified and is to be avoided however it is not an area which would have been of interest to fossil seekers.
